Stephen Montagna is the founding principal of Montagna Family Law, APC. He is board‑Certified as a Family Law Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization and is licensed to practice law in California and New Jersey. His practice is entirely devoted to family law, representing litigants in all aspects of domestic litigation. He is a trained mediator and has been appointed by the Court as minors counsel in high conflict custody cases. Prior to starting his own firm, he was the managing family law attorney for Hodson & Mullin, a preeminent family law firm in Solano County which frequently was recognized as “Law Firm of the Year” by the Solano County Bar Association and readers of the Vacaville Reporter.

In addition to his practice, he is the past Chair of the California Lawyers Association (CLA) Family Law Section Executive Committee (FlexCom), which is a statewide organization. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists (ACFLS), the Associate Journal Editor for The Specialist, ACFLS’ quarterly scholarly publication, and was ACFLS’ Vice Chair on their Legislation Subcommittee, which addresses all current pending legislation involving family law in California.
Locally, Mr. Montagna has sat on the board of directors for the Solano County Bar Association (SCBA), serving in the capacity as Secretary on the executive board. He has also served as Chair and Vice Chair for the Family Law Section of the SCBA.
He has been a perennial Northern California Super Lawyer Rising Star and is the first and only attorney to be presented with the “Barrister Award” by the State of California Family Law Section, in 2016. The award recognizes outstanding contributions to the practice of Family Law by an attorney practicing less than five years. In 2023, he was named a Northern California Super Lawyer.
